In 1990, Kuni Sato arrived in the US from a small village in japan.

Six years later, the self taught sushi chef opened Kuni’s. After nine years he needed a break, so he closed the doors on his Elmwood location. A few years later, Kuni opened a takeout only location at 226 Lexington Ave. Soon after, he knocked down a wall and went full service.

Kuni Sato was kind enough to allow me and my crew to push back his tables and make some pictures for my ongoing project.
